Best Photoshoot Locations in DC & Northern Virginia | District Photog
From historic streets and colorful city backdrops to open fields and waterfront views, the DC area offers an incredible variety of settings for a photoshoot. The right location can completely shape the feeling of your images—whether you’re looking for something romantic and timeless, natural and relaxed, or modern and urban.
Here are a few of my favorite locations around DC and Northern Virginia.
Georgetown, DC
Historic architecture, charming streets, waterfront views, and tucked-away corners make Georgetown one of the most versatile locations in DC. It’s perfect for couples, portraits, maternity sessions, and anyone looking for a classic old city feel with plenty of variety.
Burke Lake, Virginia
For a more relaxed, nature-filled setting, Burke Lake offers beautiful water views, wooded paths, and plenty of greenery. It’s especially lovely for families, couples, and maternity sessions and takes on a warm, romantic quality around golden hour. My favorite time of year to shoot at Burke Lake is the Fall during the foliage season.
Manassas National Battlefield
Open fields, tall grasses, winding paths, and expansive skies give Manassas Battlefield a beautifully understated, almost cinematic quality. It’s one of my favorites for couples, families, and maternity sessions when you want nature to be part of the story without distracting from the people in the photographs.
Old Town Alexandria
Cobblestone streets, historic architecture, colorful doors, and the waterfront give Old Town Alexandria plenty of character. With so many different backgrounds within walking distance, it works beautifully for couples, families, portraits, and branding sessions.
Blagden Alley
For something a little less traditional, Blagden Alley offers textured brick, murals, architectural details, and an unmistakably urban DC feel. It’s a great choice for branding, portraits, couples, and anyone looking for photographs with a little more personality and edge.
Union Market
Modern, energetic, and distinctly DC, Union Market offers an interesting mix of industrial architecture, colorful details, murals, and city streets. It’s especially well suited for lifestyle portraits, couples, and branding sessions with a contemporary, editorial feel.
Finding the Right Location for You
The best photoshoot location isn’t simply the prettiest one—it’s the one that feels right for you. When planning your session, we’ll consider the season, light, wardrobe, and the overall feeling you want your photographs to have to choose a setting that complements your story.
